Kitchen Safety Tips- how to keep your appliances out of kids' reach
Home injuries are a major issue and occurrence in almost
every household but this is more common with children. To think that the
kitchen at your house could be a hazardous and unsafe place is unbelievable by
many. The only way to solve such problems is to keep the environment and
surroundings secure by installing and using the right safety tips in your
kitchen.
Children tend to be curious of new things and they would want
to discover places in a kitchen or any space that they believe is out of their
access. Before it turns into a problem or an accident, you should know the
following safety tips to include to your kitchen’s maintenance.
Not a place for medicine containers
Some people tend to keep medicine containers in the kitchen
even though it is not a place to keep such things at. Almost everyone at a
household has access to the kitchen so you can guess that children can get easy
access to medicine and might end up eating it unintentionally. If the medicine
they eat is not digested properly it could result in poisoning or chocking.
Whether it is a medicine container or a container for spare food, make sure
such items are not kept in the vicinity of children at your house.
Installation of safety locks
Safety measures inside a kitchen should be paid heed to and
duly installed. Such as keeping a lockable fridge is a good idea if you do
not want your children to go near electric appliances or pick up food items
that are not meant for them. The other thing that you can do is to lock all
your drawers and cabinets. Knives, scissors or any other sharp objects are kept
inside drawers mostly. Young children do not know the harm such objects they
can induce so before an accident occurs, make sure the drawers and cabinets
have been already locked when an adult is not present in the kitchen.
Do not store cleaners under sinks
If you want to store all your cleaners at a place then the
kitchen sink is not the correct option. Doing so is going to give full access
to children at your house. They might pick the cleaners up and think that it is
something to drink. A probable solution mentioned earlier was to install safety
locks but this does not work in this case. Do not place cleaners in a place that
children can get a hold of easily instead store such items on the topmost
cabinets.
Keep electrical cords and extension away
Ultimately, having both electric cords and extensions in a
kitchen is inevitable. You could need it for your fridge or blender but the
thought of such appliances electrocuting children is a scary one. Cable and
cord safety is the most common and widely usedsafety measure on a global scale. Just seal all the sockets that are unused
or just place a plastic socket on the cover of the electric wire or cord.
